That woman is one tough cookie! When I got there this morning, she was sitting in a chair. The physical therapist helped her and then me and my aunt gave her a washcloth bath. Mel came in later and washed her hair for her. She really seemed to enjoy getting cleaned up.

She sat in the chair for 2 hours until she finally felt like she was done. Basically, the physical therapist has to pick her up and lay her in the bed. With a broken shoulder on the right, broken hip on the left, and a sprained foot on the right, she can't do it on her own.

Everyday there is progress though. She seemed to be awake more today, and although we wish she would rest more so her body can heal, she kept asking us about our day, and all that stuff.

There is some short-term memory loss that we are dealing with. Some things she'll remember, but some she won't. Especially as her body rests, she often asks the same question she just asked right before closing her eyes. She doesn't remember too much about yesterday, but there are some conversations that she does remember. The speech therapist or pathologist (or whatever she is) said that this is VERY common after a severe head injury. I asked her if there was anything we could do to help with it and she said time was the best thing - it takes lots of time.

There is a little talk about rehab. No one has spoken to us directly, but the nurse mentioned it was in her notes. We are kind of hoping for a place that she can stay for a few days before coming home.

I know that many of you have asked how you can help. My sister has 2 boys - ages 3 months, and 2 yrs. I also have 2 - (girl) age 4 and (boy) 6. We are starting another week and there may be times when we might need help with our kids so we can be at the hospital with mom. We have been reading her your messages from this blog, and facebook, and the emails that come in from the hospital. She loves to hear them and I think it really brightens her day. She says thank you and thinks she has the sweetest friends and family.
